You are on this list because you signed my mailing list at a concert or otherwise asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Please don't forward jokes, news items, virus warnings or petitions. I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Performances! 2. Welcome and general blabbing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey everyone! This newsletter usually comes out at the end of the month but I'm leaving soon on tour and needed to get it out early. I've been home this month, writing songs and teaching classes, except for a week in Nashville, when I attended the Folk Alliance conference. I did a bunch of showcases so bookers and media folks could hear me. I tell ya, there's nothing like singing "I Wanna Be A Straight Guy" for a whole room of straight guys. I also got to see and hear some of my favorite musicians plus attend a very inspiring peace rally that included Holly Near, Si Kahn, John McCutcheon, and many more. There's something new for Women in Harmony - if ten or more members of your chorus want to come to this music camp, we can offer you a discount! Write to Elaine for more information: elainetownsendsc@yahoo.com. Also, check out the movie from last year's event on my website: www.jamieanderson.com/harmony.htm. More information is below. I'm really excited about my upcoming tour schedule! I get to start in Hawaii, then move to the west coast for gigs in northern California, Oregon and Washington. I'm sharing the bill with several fine performers including Carla Ulbrich, Ronnie Gilbert, Barbara Higbie, Monica Grant, Tret Fure and more. Yeehaw. Maybe Carla will do her new song "What if Your Butt Was Gone?" In April, I'll be in the midwest. For tour details, see above. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3. Do you live in WA and want me in your living room? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm looking for performance opportunities in Washington State for Friday, March 21. Maybe you're interested in putting on a house concert? You need a space that seat at least 20 and an address book of friends who'd come. I'm looking for something in Tacoma or within in a two hour drive of Seattle. I'm already booked in Olympia, Renton and north/central Seattle so I don't want to be too close. E me for more details: tsunamiinc@aol.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Read this if you're coming to the Eugene show ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The good news is that I'll be in Eugene again, playing at Cafˇ Paradiso, the same fab venue where I was last year. The bad news is that Tret Fure is doing a concert in town on the same night. We worked it out so you can come to both shows. My concert starts at 7 pm and will be over by 8:30. Her show begins at 9 pm at another venue. We hope you can attend both concerts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. National Women's Music Festival memberships ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can become a lifetime member of Women in the Arts, the non-profit organization that puts on the National Women's Music Festival. Right now, they have a special offer for the first 100 people who buy lifetime memberships before March 31. You'll get a lifetime of free registration to the festival (you just pay meals and housing), see your name listed in the program (with your permission), and have a chance to meet performers at the annual members breakfast. A lifetime membership is $1000. If that's too much for your budget, you can give a tax-deductible donation of any amount. Please ask your employer if they have a program that matches employee gifts. Your donation could be doubled if your company chips in too. Your membership helps provide seed money they need for pre-festival expenses. Paying dues is your insurance that WIA and NWMF will be there in your future. Become a member and you will know you did your part to ensure that the words, wisdom, music, and culture of women will continue to be heard. Membership is $35 for one or $55 for a household. To send a check, mail (including your name, address, phone and email) to: Women In the Arts, Inc.,PO Box 1427, Indianapolis, IN 46206-1427. To use a credit card call their secure voice mail: (317) 927-9355 or Fax: (317) 585-9448. Check the web site for more information (www.wiaonline.org/nwmf). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. Women in Harmony ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Whether you're a shower singer or a full time musician, you'll want to come to Women in Harmony! It's July 11 -13, 2003 at a camp in the beautiful mountains near Asheville, North Carolina, and offers a fun and supportive atmosphere for women of all musical abilities. This isn't your ordinary music event - it's like scout camp for adults. The focus is on creating community and culture, not in being audience members and watching others make music. We are the music! Elaine Townsend and I are teaching workshops (songwriting, guitar, drum, harmony singing and others), plus there are song circles and jam sessions for beginners through intermediate players and singers. You'll get delicious meals and a furnished cabin room or a camping spot. The camp is beautifully forested with a pond for swimming and lots of places to relax. More information about the facility, including photos, is at www.starcamp.com. If ten or more members of your chorus are interested in coming, you can get a discount! Write for more info. Our 2002 event was a big success with women from six states attending. We had a wonderful time and we'd love for you to join us in 2003! For more information, contact Elaine Townsend, elainetownsendsc@yahoo.com, 404-627-6163 or check http://www.jamieanderson.com/harmony.htm. Check out the movie! ~~~~~~~~~~~ 7. Requests ~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm happy to do requests at my shows but know that my memory bites. If there's a song you really want to hear, it's best to e me ahead of time so I can run through the song before I embarrass myself in front an audience. Tell me what show you'll be attending. tsunamiinc@aol.com Ask me to sing someone else's song and I'll pummel you with an organic carrot. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 8. www.whitehouse.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you enjoy satire like I do, you'll love this site. We need to laugh, eh? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 9. The Ending Quotes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "You can no more win a war than you can win an earthquake." - Jeanette Rankin, first woman in the US House of Representatives, 1917-1919, 1940-1942 "If you think you're too small to make a difference, you've never been in bed with a mosquito." - Anita Roddick Now go make like a mosquito, everyone.
