It's time once again for me to blather on about my work and whatever else strikes my fancy. You are on this list because you signed my mailing list at a concert or asked to be added via email. If you'd like to be removed or if your address is changing soon, please notify us at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Please do not send jokes, virus warnings, or petitions. However, I love to get fan mail and try to answer every one I get. _________________________________ September Damn what fun gigs I did this last month. It began with the pleasurable women's music festival, NEWMR, in Connecticut. Those women sure know how to put on a party. Then I traveled down to Florida (because it's so, um, close). I want to thank Floyd for threatening Florida in the middle of the week so that none of my gigs were canceled. I'm very grateful to Mo and Marsha in St. Petersburg for letting me stay at their house an extra couple of days. There was no way I could venture out on roads already packed with fleeing east coast residents. I nervously watched CNN as the little whirling red disk representing the hurricane whipped right through Durham. Fortunately, we just got a lot of rain at home although several communities just to the east of here flooded. A couple are still under water. I hope all of you made it through the storms okay. Is it my imagination or are folks in Florida friendlier than the rest of country? I had some pretty dang good gigs, playing in a variety of venues like the tiny but welcoming Mad Lyn's cafe in Orlando, the cozy theater at the Pagoda in St. Augustine, Heather Tanksley's awesome house concert series in Plantation (60-some people in a living room!) and on Michael Stock's radio show on WLRN in Miami. I had the pleasure of performing with the ensemble No More Silence for a warm crowd in Tampa. Special thanks to Amy Carol Webb for calling everyone in her phone book and encouraging them to come to the show in Plantation. Heck, I don't know what she did -- promise them imported chocolate or something -- but it worked. Incidentally, Amy is a great songwriter who's well known in southern Florida. One of my favorite songs of hers is "I Come From Women." Very inspiring. If you want more info about her work, visit her website: www.songs.com/acw. And while I'm thanking folks, I want to thank everyone who brought friends to my concerts. It really does make a difference and this folksinger really appreciates your help. I finished off this month with a performance at the Evening Star Concert Series in Clarkesville, GA, opening for Canadian singer-songwriter Lowry Olafson. What a gorgeous venue this restored schoolhouse is! ______________________________ Kate's Soap Company Yeah, I know I'm often blathering about music I'm excited about but now I've gotta tell you about this soap. I received a gift box of this handcrafted botanical soap directly from Kate herself. It's natural and cruelty free. The kids sing it at school, but there are two verses they miss. One says: 'As I went walking I saw a sign there, and on the sign it said "Private Property." On the other side it didn't say nothin'. This side was made for you and me.' ... Now they don't sing those verses because nobody feels comfortable criticizing the American dream. Woody Guthrie asked difficult questions of the American people, and he was quite unflinching in that." -- Billy Bragg, "Speak" (Sept.Oct. 1998) May we all keep asking difficult questions. -- Jamie Anderson http://www.jamieanderson.com tsunamiinc@aol.com Order Drive All Night!
